Summer of Thunder – 2012 Oshkosh Speedzone Schedule Set!

OSHKOSH, WI, FEBRUARY 13, 2012:  If you enjoy dirt track racing, Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway’s “Summer of Thunder” will satisfy any race fans need for speed with a full slate of weekly racing events, spiced up with a handful of specials and full smorgasbord of different classes appearing on the 1/3 mile clay oval.  You won’t go hungry if thrilling racing action fills you appetite.

The main course on the 2012 season schedule will be the weekly Friday Night racing program.  Beginning on May 4th the first of 15 Friday Night races will take place featuring five divisions of racing action.

IMCA Sanctioning Returns to Oshkosh Speedzone for 2012

 Oshkosh, WI, January 31, 2012:  Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway opened it’s doors in 1999 as the third-mile clay oval roared to life with a Tuesday Night racing program.  During it’s pivotal first few seasons, the track was sanctioned by International Motor Car Association (IMCA).  One of the longest running and most effective short track sanctioning bodies in the nation IMCA sanctioned both the Modified and Stock Car divisions at the raceway through the 2000 season.

IMCA Northern SportMods new at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway next season.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Dec. 17, 2011) – Looking to build on already solid numbers, Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway will add Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods to its weekly lineup next season.

IMCA points will be awarded at Friday shows starting with opening night May 4 through Aug. 31. Several Tuesday programs on the 1/3-mile dirt oval are also to be announced for 2012.

Oshkosh Speedzone Sanctioning for 2012

December 12, 2012, Oshkosh, WI. -  The Oshkosh Speedzone is proud to announce that in 2012 IMCA has agreed to sanction the Sport Mods. After several years of waiting we finally are in the door of IMCA said partner Larry Stratton. Though IMCA would like to have sanctioned both Modified divisions, we thought we would run another year un-sanctioned in the “A” Mods.

Oshkosh Speedzone November Monthly Meeting

November 2, 2011, Oshkosh, WI – The Oshkosh Speedzone held our regular monthly drivers meeting. There were about 100 people that attended, in addition to 4 tracks, 141, Seymour, Sturgeon Bay and Wilmont.
 
Brett Root (IMCA) along with Todd Staley (USRA/USMTS) each had a few minutes to talk about their sanctioning groups then we broke into smaller groups.

Most of what was talked about during the group meetings we will be talking about them on Saturday November 12 at the promoters meeting being held at 141 Speedway.

Oshkosh Speedzone November Rules Meeting Announced.

The next Speedzone monthly meeting will take place at Shoreview Lanes at 7:00pm November 2, 2011. There are going to be some “HOT” topics discused.

Oshkosh Off-Road Racing Weekend Information

September 16, 2011; Oshkosh, WI. – The Oshkosh Speedzone is going to become the home for the Traxxas Torc Off-Road Racing Series Sportsman Championship Race September 17 and 18 2011.

Last year proved to be an outstanding race with a challenging race course; this year will be no different.

Saturday, 11, 2011 – Oshkosh, WI. –  The second day of the WAPL / LaSure’s Banquet Hall Fall Classic began on a sun-soaked afternoon.  With additional cars checking into the pit area for the show, a two-day total of 164 cars participated during the program.  All totaled fans were treated to 560 laps of racing action during the event.

Chris Engels topped the IMCA Type Modified portion of The Speedzone Fall Classic and came away with $2,000!

In the IMCA Type Modifieds, Chris Engels who had been unable to obtain a victory during the course of the 2011 season at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway was able to take advantage of his starting position and fend off hometown pilot Brian Drexler for the victory.  For Engels the win was redemption for a heart breaking loss earlier in the year where he had secured the lead late in a feature contest only to drop from the event with mechanical troubles.  Engels pocketed $2,000 in prize money for his efforts.

WAPL / LaSure’s Banquet Hall Speedzone Fall Classic Opening Night Showcases 320 Laps of action! Last Chance Events and Features Wrap Up Saturday!

Friday, September 9, 2011 – Oshkosh, WI. –  With nearly ideal weather conditions, fans were treated to 320 laps of qualifying heat action as many of the area’s finest dirt track competitors fought to make their way into the feature contests to be held Saturday Afternoon, beginning at 3:00pm.

158 cars checked into the pit area surpassing last year’s Fall Classic numbers.  45 IMCA Style Modifieds topped the divisions followed closely by 42 IMCA Style Sport Modifieds.  Area Street Stock racers representing several tracks checked in with 33 entries.  22 Grand Nationals were in the pit area with several IMCA Type Stock Cars joining them.  The entry level 4 cylinders saw a showing of 16 cars.
